Story Cabaret 11/14/2014 8 pm

Oh, you lovelies!  Come out on a dark November night to the warmth of Touchstone Theatre's cafe for Story Cabaret, an event for adults.

The date is Friday, November 14th.
The time is 8 pm.
The place is Touchstone Theatre, 321 East 4th Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
The cost is $10 - which includes a glass of wine.
The featured tellers are Chaz Kiernan - and Karen Maurer.

Yep. ME!  No wait, that's Chaz.

Hey, it was a hot day!!  The things I did for my job!
That's me, right there is an outrageous getup.  (You should see me with the paper crown.)

And you, too, can tell stories about anything you like.  The theme is "In Celebration of......"  All those dots mean, "Pick something".  Easy, right?

But there are rules.
Rule #1.  The stories must be personal.
Rule #2.  The stories must be true or very, very, very close to truth.  I mean, no one expects you to remember exactly what your physics prof said when she caught you sneaking the spectrometer out the window.
Rule #3.  No notes allowed.  Um, except I think I broke that rule last time.  Because I read a whole book.  It was a picture book, written by Neil Gaiman. Come on!  Neil Gaiman!!! I agree.  That, alone, is worth breaking a rule for.  (And it was only the last five minutes.)

I promise you 30 minutes of true or almost true stories about......... something.   It will be a great evening.  Join me - and Chaz - and that nice glass of wine.

Reboots and Second Chances

Do-Overs.  That's what we need, chances to do things right this time.  If you want to hear stories about Second Chances, Reboots and Do-Overs, come out to Touchstone Theatre, 321 E. 4th Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015, on Friday night, Jan. 17th at 8 pm, for a Story Cabaret,  Admission is $10 but the tellers are awesome.
A promise of things to come.

Because...
Psst.  Over here.  You may not have noticed but a new year started 2 weeks ago.  You know what that means.  You have a whole year in which to do all the things you promised to do last year.  Right?  Like, um, get organized.  Put your finances in order.  I am not even going to mention the, how should I put it? - size thing at all.

Maybe you were going to keep your house looking like a model home last year.  Maybe you were going to finally invent that gadget for corralling the kids' toys.  That book?  You will get it written this year.  Or that business plan - this is YOUR year, buckos and buckettes.

Right?  It will all get done.  You have been given another brand new year.  It's like freshly fallen snow, completely unsullied by any bird's twig-like footprints or boot tracks.  The new year lies in front of you like a white field, just waiting for you to break a trail.  Yeah.

I could tell you stories about all the second chances I had and lost.  And I will tell some of those stories on Friday night.  Join me.  I may even bring the accordion.  If enough of you show up, I promise not to play it...

Storyteller Thursday - one day late

Last night, I went to Touchstone Theatre's Christmas City Follies XII.  This has become a Christmas tradition for my Mom, my sister, Christine, and I.  Every year, we invite a different friend to join us and this year it was my co-worker and partner in crime (past), Suzanne.

The Follies are a Lehigh Valley tradition, a vaudevillian collection of comedy sketches, musical pieces and local lore lampooned.  Every year, we wonder how they will top last year's production and every year the ensemble cast produces something wonderful.  This is not a greeting card Christmas at all, but it feels oh-so-merry-and-bright.

And, what does this have to do with storytelling?  Well, Mary Wright is one of The Follies cast members and she is also a super storyteller!

Mary is a tireless proponent of education through the arts, working with theater groups at area high schools, running storytelling and creative dramatic workshops and retreats.  Besides all that, she is an all around nice person!  She tells stories based on her own life, and the lives of her fore-mothers.  She has developed story/theater pieces for arts organizations.  She and Cora Hook, another local theater and storytelling star wrote produces and starred in Two Cronies, a marvelous show on the women's coming of age through "the change".

Back to The Follies - the show runs Thursday through Sunday until December 18th.  Get your tickets now!
